Miniature Bulldog

The Miniature Bulldog was created in the 1980s, and breeders exerted efforts to make him look identical to his standard-sized relative. Miniature English Bulldogs are smaller in size, measuring 11-14 inches high a the shoulder and weighing 25-40 lbs. These dogs are similar, if not identical, to standard English Bulldogs in body structure and general look.

Miniature English Bulldogs are superb companions for people of all ages. They are great pets for children, providing children are taught to properly handle these dogs. If socialized in the required ways, Miniature Bulldogs are tolerant of other animals, if any, in the house, both canine and non-canine. However, they can be aggressive toward alien dogs, and hence they should not be walked without a lead. Miniature Bulldogs are naturally protective around their loved ones and hence they are usually reserved with strangers.

In general, English Bulldogs are sweet and loving companions, and they are not vicious. They are no longer intended for dog fighting contests, and over the past century their ferocity has been completely bred out of them. Purebred Bulldogs are very people-oriented, and they never exhibit unprovoked aggression. Miniature Bulldogs are no less eager to protect their loved ones than their larger counterparts.

Like standard Bulldogs, Miniature Bulldogs are very intelligent and convivial. They hate it when there is no one around to play with them, and hence they should not be left out of action. Bored Bulldogs can be extremely destructive. These dogs require moderate exercise, and are intended for indoor dwelling. Bulldogs do love daily walks and physical activity, but they should not be exposed to excessive strains.

Like many Mastiff-type dogs, Miniature Bulldogs are extremely prone to overheating, and hence they are not well off in hot and humid climates. On the other hand, they are also prone to cold, which may contribute to serious breathing difficulties. These dogs feel relatively comfortable in temperate climates. Under no circumstances should a Miniature Bulldog be locked in a car on a hot day, as in such cases it does not take long for Bulldogs to go down with a heat stroke, which can lead to death.

Miniature Bulldogs are not recognized by the American Kennel Club. However, there is a real chance that they will be recognized in the foreseeable future, as some breeders have succeeded in boosting their dogs’ genetic potential, and they seem even healthier and more long-lived than Standard English Bulldogs. The Miniature Bulldog is increasingly popular among dog fanciers, although there are still few of them in the world.
