Mini English Bulldog

The Mini English Bulldog is a downsized version of the standard English Bulldog, and has physical characteristics of its standard-sized counterpart. This smaller Bulldog has not undergone any influence by other breeds. Miniature Bulldogs do not have the AKC recognition, but many breeders are working hard for their dogs to gain a significant position in the long list of recognized breeds of dogs.

Mini English Bulldogs were developed in an effort to improve the dog’s genetic potential and minimize the risk of genetic disorders. These dogs have a slightly longer life span (10-12 years) than standard English Bulldogs, whose life expectancy averages 8-10 years. As to the general appearance, Mini English Bulldogs are very similar (except for the size) to their standard-sized relatives.

Although Mini Bulldogs are increasingly popular among dog fanciers, they are not bred in large numbers. However, breeders seem to persistently push this dog toward official recognition, and chances are they will be recognized one day, because they do have a good potential. However, if you feel fully determined to find a Miniature English Bulldog puppy for yourself, you must be very careful when choosing a breeder. Unfortunately, there are lots of non-professional and dollar-oriented breeders, who often take to unethical and incorrect methods of breeding dogs, involving other types of dogs in their breeding projects, which can make their dogs less predictable both in terms of physical health and behavioral characteristics.

Mini English Bulldogs have stocky bodies with muscular limbs, deep and broad chests and distinctively broad heads. Like all Mastiff-type dogs, Mini Bulldogs have wrinkly muzzles and undershot lower jaws. Neither standard nor Miniature English Bulldogs are intended for any bloody sport or hunting. Although these dogs do look tough, they are not very active and require moderate exercise. They should not be exposed to physical strains or heat. Mini English Bulldogs are also sensitive to cold, which may cause serious breathing problems.

Mini English Bulldogs are bred as indoor companions, although they do appreciate daily walks. They are not as aggressive as many people think of them, but can be scrappy with other dogs and a little suspicious of strangers. They are quite intelligent, but they are notoriously stubborn, which makes them hard to train for inexperienced dog owners. If socialized properly and in due time, these Mini English Bulldogs are tolerant of other pets in the house.
